Need new mattress.. Would you buy a floor model mattress for a great price? Specifically a Kingsdown with mixed reviews? (pillow, Amazon)

A $3000 item goes for $500 sounding fishy. Not to mention that it is void of warrenty.
In my country, some mattress manifacturers picked the abandoned mattresses from the dumps, and they renewed the linene clothes outside . The such matresses were in the low prices. But even though with such manufacturings, they would be branded Simmon or your Kingsomething for U.S. $5000.
Therefore, to buy a mattress that you like is the option.
To be honest I'm not sure what we need... I had searched the forum re: mattress buying and am more confused than ever. I have major back & joint issues and whenever I've slept on something firm (hotel mattress, family member's spare bed, the couch, etc) I wake up in excruciating pain. Everything I read says go with firm and that firm mattresses are supposedly better... Yet firm causes me so much pain... I honestly don't know what type of mattress I have now.. I know, that's awful. It is very comfortable and soft but firm (not like a pillow top that you sink into but not as firm as the mattresses I've laid on) and the mattress topper definitely helps it comfort-wise.
I totally agree that spending $500 on something we can't bring back would suck!! If we buy a mattress at a different store and don't like it, will they let you exchange it? I bet Amazon would. They have such amazing return policies
Do you have any specific brands/models that you recommend that are latex and repel the things you mentioned?
Since you mentioned a back pain & joint issues, I really recommend to buy a mattress with full return warranty.
Most stores let you return the mattress if not satisfied. It's a little hassle with a bigger mattress, and transportation, but fully worth it. Some places give you 30/45/60 or even 90 days. I think it doesn't really matter. You will know if you love/hate your mattress in about 30 days.
Money back is not universal, and some stores give you just a store credit, but that's still better than no returning at all.
Just make sure you protect the mattress well, and return it looking almost pristine (no dirt, spots etc).
Deals online are almost always better, but they are more hassle, because it means preparing the mattress to return, wrapping and or boxing, and bringing to FedEx or USPS store.
I probably would like to return it locally. Just make sure you ask about the return policy and all fees if any.
You should start with a firm mattress, then medium, and then try soft. Remember that you can always make a firm mattress a little softer by putting something on top of it, but you can't make a soft mattress firmer.
You can save $$ when you get a model without a fancy control or pillowtop. If you decide that's too hard, you can always buy a pillowtop/memory foam pad etc. from your local bed and bath store, for less.
Ah... and remember to haggle! Some mattress stores offer no-haggle pricing, and they'll try and get more money out of you on accessories and warranties (no need to buy extra protection, if you get a good manufacturer's warranty), but if you're shopping in any of the major chains, the price is almost always flexible. Never let the sales person know how much you "love" the mattress, or you will kill any discount on it. (some people save 40-50% !). You can also find the right mattress but buy it online, for less.
With a holiday season approaching, you will get some great seasonal sales and good opportunity to save even more money.
For $500.00 or even a few bucks more you can buy a new decent mattress that no one has been laying on or left unknown unidentifiable specimens of something. Plus new you'll get a long time warranty usually 10 or more years.
Costco is a good place to look. If you live near an Original Mattress Factory you might check them out. I recently bought a 2 sided mattress from them and I'm very pleased.
I check slickdeals.net often. There is a mattress store that runs specials often. About once a month or every other month. I think it's US-Mattress: Mattresses from Sealy, Simmons, Serta, Stearns & Foster but not 100% sure. When they run their ads, few local stores can compete. I was pretty satisfied with what I bought. How long will it last? No idea, I got it only 1 yr. My mattress was retail at $2400 and got it on sale at $899. Went to my local store and they couldn't match, I believe they were selling a similar model at $1300.
I don't buy pillow top or additional foams on top of the mattress. I buy extra firm mattress and buy foam/toppers separately because the first thing to go is the foam/pillow top. Can't just switch it if its attach to the mattress.
I wouldn't have any problem buying a floor model for the right price. And I think you can buy a plastic cover for it that you leave on for a while that would kill any bedbugs that might be on it.
You could check Costco online, too. But, I think your floor model sounds great.
BTW, I like a really soft bed, too, and I have two mattresses on top of each other, instead of a box spring. It's softer that way.
Hello I tried to Pm you but it wouldn't go through. I hope I am not bothering you but we were going to visit Crescent City leaving tomorrow or the next day to be there this weekend and wanted to ask you where to stay. If you happen to have a moment, could you pm me a good motel?
My husband is a Painting Contractor, my 24 year old son works for Apple (from home) and I work with him and a part time job as a Supportive Living Supervisor with Developmentally Disabled Adults. So only my son will be able to take his job with us so we'll be applying for jobs right as we get there.
We would like to be offgrid if possible...or somewhere with more privacy & trees. We would rent first then buy, just in case we don't like it there. Anyhow I am sorry for crashing this thread, any advice would be great. I would love to leave my email or phone but it is probably against the rules. Thanks so much
