A bird virus has infected more than 31.5 million birds in Iowa, mostly egg-laying chickens. Of course it has affected the eggs price.
Hunt for the best price! The last time I checked, Aldi had dozen for $2.29, and somewhere else I saw a 2 for $3 deal.
Freeze when you get a great deal. According to the American Egg Board: you can break them out of their shells, beat until blended, and seal them in freezer containers. Thaw in the fridge.
I really don't look at prices when shopping for food (just the end amount on the receipt) but noticed 18ct of eggs being $5.29 the other day. Not sure how much it was prior to the avain flu outbreak.
They both cost more than a gallon of gas. Did you ever think about how cheap as is, considering it comes from miles under the ground or ocean, is processed in a very expensive refinery, and shipped half way around the world? And it's cheaper per gallon than the fountain drinks in the gas station, which are nothing but water, a bit of fizz, and artificial coloring and flavoring and sweetener.
I won't and haven't been paying more than $3.00-4.00 for eggs.
