Some merchandise was shipped to me on Wednesday, December 9. It's a large item and was sent via Parcel Select (ground delivery). I just checked the tracking info and see that it left Reidsville NC on December 9 and arrived in Greensboro NC -- 23.5 miles away -- on Monday, December 14.

I realize that Parcel Select packages may take longer to arrive. But doesnt it seem strange that it would take 5 days (or 3 days, it drivers dont travel on weekends) to travel 23.5 miles?

I'm in Texas so who knows how long it will take to get here.

What did they tell you when you ordered?
Most Parcel Post - in my experience - is 8 to 10 business days. You are only four business days in....

Thanks. I guess I should have been more clear in my OP. I just found it strange that it took 3 business days to go 23.5 miles and wondered if anyone familiar with the USPS might know why. Did it possibly arrive in Greensboro the same day and just sat on the truck for 2 days?

Hi TFW Greensboro is a USPS distribution center
It might sit there for several days before it moves. Parcel Select is at about the same level as Media Mail. Last on the truck after all the Priority and Express mail goes. <---- not actually, but for all practical purposes.
When you look up your tracking number online, it should give you an estimated delivery date.

Thanks SO very much, NMNan. According to the USPS tracking site. delivery should be today -- but the package is still in Greensboro. Now that I know Greensboro is a distribution center, I know the package will probably sit there for a few days. I'm ok with that. I was just wondering what was happening in NC. You answered my question. Thanks again!
