We too accidentally bought the one sided mattress a few years ago because we did not know you needed to check the other side to make sure it was a two sided mattress, by the time you discover it-it is too late to return it!
Two sided mattresses, a thing of the past?
In the past, all innerspring mattresses were double-sided, meaning you could flip the mattress over and sleep on the other side. But about 15 years ago, the industry changed. Many manufacturers stopped making double-sided mattresses and began producing only single-sided ones that were unflippable. In my opinion, they did this to increase profits. Single-sided mattresses cost less to manufacture and don’t last as long as double-sided ones, so they knew customers would have to buy a new mattress sooner.... All that matters is that you have the best mattress for your body. Don't compromise on that. If that means that you have to spend more $$ to get a mattress that has memory foam pillowtop on both sides so you can flip, then spend the $$. It's not worth compromising on comfort and health.

Yes, we bought a pillow top with the pillow on both sides and flip it regularly. It's holding up great, and well worth the money. I think we paid about $1,200 for the queen size about 5 years ago.
The hard flat side that sits on the box spring. I kept my queen size one sided pillow top guest bedroom mattress and box spring when I moved several years ago, I cannot flip it, but I do spin it every 6 months from head to foot. Prior to this I always had a two sided pillow top king mattress that my husband and I used and flipped regularly.

You never want to go cheap on mattresses. I learned the hard way many times and blew so much money when I could have bought a higher end one. My last one only survived 3 years before the springs busted thru the top and the box spring collapsed.
I've ditched the traditional bed all together and now use a Japanese style futon right on the floor. I actually sleep better and my back has never been better. As a minimalist it can be folded away and makes the room appear a lot bigger.
