No they don't. Total myth. Some do, but hardly 'most'.
At best you might get to volunteer which holiday
s to work, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's. Or maybe you get to choose which shift on the holiday you prefer, but very, very few employees can choose not to work the holidays if the business is open.
Some companies make you work the actual holiday and then schedule an extra day off during the pay period, meaning you have worked the holiday for no additional increase in your paycheck. Nice huh?
