I’ve been on NexDoor for about a year or so and find it’s not much different than other sites…………. YOU have to be careful just like any other site. Don’t think that everyone is your friend nor enemy, just take them for what they are – “neighbors” and not all neighbors get along well on a street so they'll not be much better online.
In my neighborhood, most posts relate to people selling stuff (furniture, exercise equipment...), garage sales, recommendations for handymen and other services, warnings and sharing security videos (suspicious people at door..), and lost and found pets.
As a Craigslist alternative it reaches a smaller but local pool of buyers. but they are less likely to be scammers or hagglers.
The default is to use real name/real address but for privacy you can use fake name & not display your address.
My neighborhood had one but they shut it down because of a lack of membership in my neighborhood so I deleted the app from my phone.
However, I still get emails from nextdoor every day because the subdivisions outside the town still have theirs, the majority of the posts are people needing something, selling something or complaining about something.
Can I ask all of you if you use your full name on the Internet? Or do you use a pen name like on CD?
They told me they wanted to promote openness and honesty. But I want to maintain my privacy. It is still the internet.
What do you think?
I don't use my real name on C-D, but I do use it on NextDoor. As I see it, the point of NextDoor is to connect with my actual physical neighbors, many of whom are people I do know in real life. Not using our real names (even if pseudonyms were allowed) would tend to defeat that purpose.
If I had been that concerned about people in town not knowing my real name, I wouldn't have joined NextDoor. Same with Facebook. If people didn't use their names, how would they locate each other?
There's no reason that people on C-D need to know my real name or where I live. It's not parallel at all.

Thank you for your response.
I hear you and understand. I know no one in the neighborhood and it is large, my apt is on the edge I gather. But it makes it hard to feel part of the group. I won't ever see people (unless I joined an activity. Which would happen sooner or later)
My main concern is it is still the internet. Sure, I can get know people, but there will always be a much wider field of those I will not know. I don't even know the boundries of the neighborhood. Drat!
While it is not like CD, it is not a close-nit group for me. Again, if I could met the majority of them, I would feel better, even with my name there.
But i am not comfortable not knowing them. For that reason I won't rejoin.
