Children's injuries and deaths from window blinds have not stalled despite decades of safety concerns, according to a new U.S. study that recommends a complete ban on blinds with cords.
Nearly 17,000 young children were hurt by window blinds between 1990 and 2015, and though most injuries were minor, almost 300 died, the study shows. Most deaths occurred when children became entangled or strangled by the cords.
There are plenty of child-free households, households with older children, and households in which toddlers are supervised, so chuck the ban.
We don't need to ban a product that's perfectly safe for the vast majority of consumers any more than we need a mandate that dressers be bolted to the walls.
Less than 300 deaths over a 15-year span -- that's less 20 per year, in a nation of 325 million people. That's an annual fatality rate of 0.000006% and people want to ban it? Jesus Christ.
I bet way more kids choke to death on chewing gum or marbles every year. Are we gonna ban those too?
It's called "Dumbing Down America", and "Death of Common Sense". It's the fallout from our litigious society.
I never saw/heard about majority of the US precautions implemented in other countries. But hey, there is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been....

It's to be expected...
More than 5,000 People Died from Choking in 2015...
Food should be banned too...
You just have to step out of the U.S. to see how this operates in other countries. Here, there are NO railings on stairs. Balcony railings are low enough to fall over, spaced wide enough for little kids to roll under. Three-feet deep holes in sidewalks, roofs low enough to gouge your eye out. Toddlers on motorbikes....
Not complaining---just a fascinating observation of the differences. Personal responsibility here....
But yeah, where does it end? Like the other poster said: marbles and any number of choking hazards.

Give me a break.
Exactly. Goodness, how idiot-proof do we have to make daily life??? How dumb are we getting? Geez!
