If you don't have a car prime pantry is very much worth it. You can knock out two on-foot grocery runs for $6. Key is sticking to the better priced and heavier/bulkier stuff (which is a small fraction of the total amount they offer, but definitely there). If you do have a car it's not really worth the premium, it can't replace all grocery runs and you can always throw more stuff in the trunk.
Re: costs of InstaCart - yes, there are some fees.... and I was OK with them because I felt they were reasonable.
I thought about what was involved in going grocery shopping - driving to the store, parking, walking inside, walking through the entire store, unloading items at check-out, carrying bags to my car, driving home, carrying bags inside...and then possibly doing all of this when the weather and traffic was bad, and I decided the InstaCart fees were worth all of that time and labor on my part.
I also have the choice of delivery from Safeway. I really like their website for grocery delivery. Its very user-friendly, IMO. You do need to buy a minimum of $49 of groceries, but they have an option where if you choose a 4-hour delivery window, delivery is free. If you choose a one-hour or two-hour window, there is a fee. And I believe if you buy over $149 in groceries, then you can also get free delivery.
Yes, I've had the occasional badly-packed box...most are ok. They do immediately fix the issue.
It makes me angry when they make the box SO heavy...for the UPS guy and for me ....like putting 2 boxes of cat litter in same box

For the third time, had Amazon delete the peanut butter. When Prime Pantry started out each item was placed into a plastic bag and they used a special box that split the box into two sections. I've had numerous bad shipments that I now create everything I need in the Wish List and create shipments separately. Once one get created with a tracking number, the next one gets created. So now I have six shipments slated for delivery on Sunday and two for Monday.

I can top that. Two 30 lb bags of dog food and a few bags of potato chips all placed in the same box by Amazon with USPS delivering it.
