OP: That's surprising given all the electronic greeting alternatives.
__________

I notice that the Hallmark shop at the mall has closed.

Ridiculous. Hallmark also has turned me off because all of their cards are pretty much syrupy-sweet, and I need some cards that are just basic "Happy Birthday Son-in-Law" or "Merry Christmas to Sister and her Husband". Hello, Dollar Tree. They have cards that I find "fit" my needs, at a price that I love.

This coming from a former "die-hard" Hallmark store/card purchaser.
Agree about Hallmark, especially. If I open a card and see more than about 6 words - back it goes, I won't even read it - I hate "poetry"!

There are some lines of cards that are much more reasonably priced so I try to go with those for people that won't access online greeting card sites. I prefer something like 123greetings for their free cards for people that still check their email regularly.

I posted a thread about this last year.

Greeting Cards Are So Overpriced!

I haven't seen them that expensive, but I saw some around $8. Back on the shelf they went. I signed up for the Hallmark emails, but I only bought one there after I got a $2 coupon for it. I have since bought several cards on Etsy. The artists make beautiful cards using original photos or unique messages. They might still be spendy (around $5 each with shipping,) but to me they are worth it, because I am supporting independent American artists and the cards are more memorable. One of the sellers sold me one card with an original photo. When I opened the envelope, she had enclosed two more cards free

My sil makes her own. Each year her creativity astounds the recipient.

I dislike ecards. So impersonal.

I haven't bought boxed cards in years! I usually take a nice pic (typically if my kids, but other I've know to take pics of their pets or them on vacay, etc) and make my own cards through Walgreens. They always have 50%ff cards around the holidays and I usually can get 50 cards for around $20 so technically they are nicer AND cheaper!

I've been printing out my own cards as it's a lot cheaper than boxes these days. I don't have anything printed inside so I can use them for general notecards if I have leftovers. $20 for 10 in a box? Nope

I bought a sympathy card and a few xmas cards yesterday. My parents and SO always get a special card, other than that nope.

The sympathy card was $2-3 dollars less than the xmas cards.

Cards as so stupid expensive these days and enough with the freakin glitter already!!!

I normally don't spend more than $1 - $2 on a card, but I did buy a Thomas Kinkade card from Hallmark for one relative ($5.97) because I know she loves anything by Thomas Kinkade. Personally I think his art is dreck, but I know she will like the card, so it was worth it for her sake.

I bought my mom a card to go with her Christmas present. $5.99 at Hannaford.

I'm glad it's not just me.
