I don't intentionally seek out Made in China items but if I need basic items that are cheaper in a big box store then I'll go there and get them. I'm talking things like a kitchen timer which I couldn't find anywhere else except Walmart. It's a question of--is thumbing my nose at China more important than my own budget? I knew a guy who refused to shop in big box stores but he was running around to all of these small Mom and Pop stores in his local area and spending big bucks on basic items. He would buy custom made trousers at $75 a pop in a local shop or $25 handmade coffee mugs--you get the picture. Is that smart? I don't think so.

Maybe it depends if they last longer. For instance my hair dryers years ago used to last for years and years. Now I buy Conair or similar, and every year and a half or so now the motor goes and I have to get a new one. So if you could find one for $100 that would last 10 years, it would make more sense than buying one for $26 every year and a half. I think the problem is that even $100 ones are made cheaply now.
