An update. I've had these Macy's sateen sheets now for almost 2 months?
They seem hot. But like the slickness as I toss and turn so much. I do wonder if that slickness is do to silicon coating, something I read about online (and resin coatings on percale). That would explain why sateen sheets, which are supposed to be just cotton, seem to run hot.
I will use them till their heat bothers me more than the idea of shopping for a better alternative does. I do get tired of all the obsessive shopping one has to do, and the trial and error and returns one has to go through.

Resin coating is coolest....Vermont Country Store sells resin coated cotton sheets, FYI. I hate sateen....
If the JC Penny ones I had were resin coated, and I think they were, I really didn't like the feel.
I didn't think I liked sateen either. But I wear cotton undies and cotton nightgowns. And I tosh and turn constantly.
I have found that the cotton had a drag to it when moving but its easier to slide around on the sateen.
So here I am. Don't like the heat but like the slide.
A few months ago, I visited Atlantis in Bahamas. I loved the bedding and took pictures of the labels. The sheets were Hanseatic Bedding. I ordered from their website HBPshop and got exactly same sheets. The pillow was New Generation by Harbor Linen, going to order that soon.
Yes. I bought the 100% cotton sheets. HBPshop.com..To clean them, I don't use bleach. I use Dawn dishwashing liquid with Borax and I put white distilled vinegar in the bleach pocket of the washing machine, then of course an extra rinse.
Also fyi for those hot bodies...I have a Chilipad. A little pricey but i found a 25% off code online. I set it at 60. Highly recommend but know the cube does make white noise.
I am looking for sheets that actually feel rough. That is what I like (don’t judge). Does anyone know what weave or other factors contribute to a Heavy Cotton sheet feeling rough?

Just remember that rough pillows will be rough on your hair and face and contribute to get bald and wrinkled.
So, while choosing rough bed sheets, consider to get slick sateen pillow cases.
Sometimes the very cheap, low count sheet feel that way (although I heard that a high count thread can feel rough too).
They tend to pill (small balls of cotton fibers that are formed on the sheet) and those little balls make the rough feel.
So, avoid Percale or Sateen.
For everyone else who has sheets that feel too rough for them - there is a trick:
Simply throw your stiff sheets into the washer, along with one full cup of baking soda and ½ cup of vinegar, and run for one full cycle.
For the best results, the pros behind the show suggest starting your washer on hot and then switching to cold during the rinse cycle, and then voila: you’ve suddenly scored a set of silky soft (albeit inexpensive) sheets to sleep in.
