[I hope this is coming across the way I mean it] I'm sorry that at age 75, you HAVE to work. I'm glad you have found what sounds like employment you enjoy doing enough to make it tolerable, but I wish you were able to make a choice about whether you wanted to be there or not. And I don't know if this is something you've done long term or if you came upon it later on, but I do appreciate the people I sometimes think of as "professional cashiers" - which I mean in a positive sense.

There are a couple of stores I've been going to for the 10+ years I've lived here in Denver and a few faces that I've been seeing for all of those years. Maybe they didn't think as kids that they wanted to grow up and work as a supermarket cashier, but it's what they've ended up doing and they do a really good job at it. And yes, there is a huge difference between a good cashier and a body standing at a register scanning items. I appreciate people who take pride in their work, whatever they do, and work hard at it along with being pleasant and friendly and helpful as well. And you definitely sound like one of those people.

Thank you! Sometimes life hands you things you didn't plan on and messes up any plans you might have made for yourself but I accepted, long ago, that I'd have to work 'forever'. Never planned on being single at this age but I'm happy so it's okay. I DO like my job. I've been working with the public since I was 16 and I like people so it's a good job for me. As long as I can be patient and keep my sense of humor I'm okay. Funny thing is that I majored in Psychology in college because I wanted to know 'what makes people tick'. All these years later I still don't know! lol

I've always given my all to whatever job I'm doing just because I was taught good work ethics and I grew up being kind of a 'people pleaser' anyway. lol But mostly it's for me. I do take pride in what I do no matter the position or the pay and I resent it when people think some do a bad job because of the lower pay. Some people are simply not suited for the jobs they are doing. Although I do get paid pretty good and the bennies I have are fantastic. Makes the job acceptable at any rate.

I go to Safeway for their bargain meat bin and have got some really good deals on that but the rest just gives me 'sticker shock'. lol
I don't know if I'll ever get a smart phone. I just have my little "stupid" phone that I have to make do with since my budget is limited. I had a big road atlas, and a couple regular maps for the trip which helped. But you are right, a smart phone would be great on a trip, and they take much better photos than either of my cameras.

I agree that Safeway is a little pricey. I only go there to get some things that Walmart doesn't carry, just for the sheer excitement of something different, lol. I thought they were all over the country, but NC didn't have them. At least around Raleigh. They didn't have my Chase bank either . But they do have heat, and copperhead snakes . So it was nice to get back where things were more familiar. Yeah, I bet your WM store discount is a big blessing for you. It all helps .

Yesterday I was at a grocery store and there was a brown substance on the side of the belt and it seriously looked like poo. I put my groceries on the other side in front of the substance and let the cashier know. She grabbed a couple paper towels and wiped it up, dry, no cleaning product at all. Common sense, regardless of what it truly was, is use some disinfectant.

If someone did a germ test on the belt you would see e-coli, streptococcus, staphylococcus, botulinum, salmonella, and others attached to it. Any packaged goods placed on top of them will carry the bacteria home and contaminate surfaces there as well. Any fresh produce likewise would pick up the bacteria from the belt.
It's a good idea to wash packaging with anti-bacterial wipes and thoroughly wash produce before storing them at home anyway even if the belt has been "cleaned".

lmao, I hella misread this. I thought a customer wanted to clean your actual belt, the one you wear around your waste, so you can physically carry her groceries to her car and "unload" them in her vehicle.

I don't blame her either. There's too many diseases floating around.

I am so thankful that I am not the only one who seriously misreads posts. I did that last night, thought someone was mad at me, and feel like a big dork now . But I said I was sorry. Yours was funny though .

Well, we are both doing the best we can . Although others may question that assumption . Sometimes I have to read the posts following to get the gist of things. If I'm lucky.
