My last washer was an LG. Within the first year, the main computer went out. thank goodness it was covered under the warranty. However, the LG repairman told me that LG does not allow its parts to be stored anywhere except its main warehouse. As a result, it took over 6 weeks to get the repair done.
The LG repairman told me that LG had pushed to get into certain appliances too quickly, without doing enough research into how to make the parts last for any length of time.
After the one-year warranty expired, several more parts failed. When the water pump failed after 3 years, I said a few choice words and bought a GE, which has been wonderfully reliable.
I may have missed it but if/when Sears goes under - where to buy Kenmore? I currently and previously had them, very happy but since it's been many yrs. since I bought mine.. wondering.
Online is the only way to buy appliances, IMVHO. The last eight or ten large appliances I've bought have come from online sellers and I have had zero problems and no complaints. Not unusual for them to be 20% less than any local retailer, even on sale, with free shipping and (still sometimes) zero tax.
Kenmore does not actually manufacture appliances. Instead, they contract with a manufacturer (GE, Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, etc.) to produce a model based on their specifications. Typically it is one that is similiar to one the manufacturer already produces but with a couple of extra features.
The Sears salesman will be able to tell you the name of the underlying manufacturer of a Kenmore appliance, if you ask them. It can change from appliance to appliance and from year to year as well.
I had a Kenmore dishwasher (made by Whirlpool) that worked very well and was a good value for money. I've not bought appliances online yet, but I'm definitely open to the idea.
I'm just glad that top-load washers (with agitator) are still being made. That is what I will buy when my 27-year-old top-load KitchenAid is no longer repairable.

Wow! 27 years? I have decided to get a Whirlpool at Home Depot. They made Kenmore back in the day. The issues with Sears is too complicated.
