(AP) The familiar logo of the world's largest retailer is getting a makeover.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said Sunday the company will begin replacing logos on the front of its U.S. stores with a new design beginning this fall. Wal-Mart spokesman Kevin Gardner said the change would reflect changes customers already have seen in some store signs and advertisements.

I noticed just yesterday the plastic bag had changed. No more yellow smiley face on it. Just a plain, white bag with Wal-Mart on it and then the web link at the bottom.

I just took a look at the new logo and my first reaction was... /shrug. As in it's not better, it's not worse, it's just different. I wasn't disgusted by it but I wasn't bowled over, either. If I were changing my logo, I'd want my new logo to catch the customers' attention and say "Wow! You just HAVE to come on in and see what we're all about now!!!".

This new logo has no energy, no pop, no WOW. The color seems washed-out. They have eliminated the dash in the middle (between Wal and Mart) but since search engines can pick it up with or without the dash, eliminating the dash doesn't really do anything for me. According to the article I read, the graphic at the is supposed to be a "sunburst". It doesn't say "Sunburst" to me. It says "Asterisk", as in there's something else you should know before you enter here...

Overall, it looks like change just for the sake of changing, not because we have a new and better idea.

WalMart will have to change A LOT more than a logo for me to ever walk into their filthy, noisy, crowded, cheap china sh*t store again. Am I too bitter?
