I have 2 Plasma TVs (one from 2005 and one from this year). I play on the Wii, do Karaoke and watch news with tickers on the bottom.
No ghosting or burned in picture. The older one is a Sony and the newer one is a Panasonic Viera.
The Pioneer Kuro (kuro means black in Japanese) is the best but the cost benefit ratio for the general population is not worth it. If you have a high end surround system, then go for a Kuro. However, word is that Pioneer will stop manufacturing Kuros (Panasonic will make their plasmas).

A 61" or 67" Samsung LED DLP rear projection is the best value on the market. My 61" one only costed $1639.

The more I read, the more I think Panasonic Plasmas may be the way to go. Still going to be better at dark colors compared to LCD. But you should try to get 1080p, so you won't be wondering about it later.

I have a 42" Sony Aquos LCD 1080p. Best tv I've ever purchased by far. No stuck pixels, beautiful color and it's nice being able to hook it up to our computer (we just bought a blu ray drive for the computer which cost half of what a stand alone does). My grandfather had a plasma and he watches a lot of sports/news channels and that dark color bar at the bottom (the scrolling news type) was burned into the screen after a couple of weeks. He just bought a 58" LCD and is loving it  |

I think on older models or less popular brands (Insignia) there were burn-in problems but on most plasma's now they have the issue fixed. Still cnet recommends if you watch tv channels with the scrolling bar at the bottom all day then go to an LCD. |

I am concerned about the news scroll burning into a plasma TV because we do keep the news channels on a good bit. |

It was big problem with the early plasma's. I had one I bought in 2003 and it had a lot of ghost images. The claim is they have fixed this. The scroll was permanently etched into mine. |

I have a 2005 and 2008 Plasma and burn has not been an issue with CNN, ESPN, Golf Channel, etc.
There are settings such as "Pixel shifter" on Panasonics to eliminate it. I have seen more burn in on LCDs, personally.

I'd go with Samsung. They are cheaper than Panasonic or Pioneer but the picture is as great as the two if not better.
