HDTV's - panasonic, samsung or pioneer?? (price, stores, reviews, best)

So, it's very probable that I'm in the market for a new TV.

We figured if we have to get one, we'll upgrade to a HD plasma or LCD TV. Our 32" Sony has died after only 6 years, so I'm not really looking to jump on the Sony wagon again... although I love the picture quality of the Bravia and Bravia XBR.

Anyway, I was digging around on C-net last night and they had pretty good things to say about Panasonic, Samsung and Pioneer. I think Pioneer's probably on the pricier end. I've always liked the way the Samsung's picture looked in the stores. I have a 13 year old 20" Panasonic in our spare bedroom that was actually dropped during our move to AZ, and litterally glued back together and it still works like a champ.

So, I'm basically asking for any first hand experience. Does anyone have the brands I've mentioned? What do you like or dislike about it? Any help would be great!!

I have the Panasonic 50" 85 Series, Plasma.

The picture is great. The menu is intuitive and the remote incorporates my digital cable remote. There are enough HDMI inputs for my digital cable and DVD player and another peripheral (like a PS3). The speakers are not as good as on a Sony; however.

I chose Panasonic for Plasma, since it was second only to Pioneer.

I have this Panasonic 32" LCD and I love it. I just noticed in either the Best Buy or Circuit City ad this week that this 37" Panasonic LCD is available. That will be my next purchase. My two rooms (living and family) room aren't big enough for something much larger than a 37. I prefer LCD over plasma. Can't remember all the comparison factors but LCDs work better for my houseshold and my tv uses. I've always been a fan of Panasonic electronics.

I've heard great things about Samsung and may buy one myself. I'm still on a budget of about $1000 so I'm trying to find the biggest LCD or Plasma I can get for my money regardless of 720 or 1080. The largest I've been able to find is a 42" plasma 720, although I think I did find a 50" plasma 720 for only $200 more on either amazon or BH electronics.

We bought a 46 in. Samsung LCD last Christmas. I don't know if things are still the same, but at the time we purchased it, we felt it offered the best picture quality to price ratio. The Sony Bravia did have somewhat better picture quality (mainly a higher contrast ratio), but not enough to warrant paying more than $1000 over the price of the Samsung. We're very happy with the Samsung.

I just purchased a Panasonic - 42" Plasma Model: TH-42PX80U. C-net gave it good reviews and I have 2 friends who have the same tv. It's been a great tv so far, easy to use remote and almost plenty of inputs (saying almost because there's never enough although I have alot to hook up). Also I thought the price was good, around $1,000 and it came with a free surround sound system, which isn't all that great but it was free.

Have the Panasonic 50" 80 Viera model. Love it. Check out the high ratings...it's what convinced me to buy it...

Panasonic is the way to go if you get Plasma. If you go LCD Sony Bravia is tops. If you choose not to go with the Sony, just make sure you get and LCD with 1080p AND 120hz refresh rate.

When you compare 60hz to 120hz side by side you will be blown away at the quality of the 120. Be sure to do a side by side comparison before you buy.

For those of you with Plasma TV's, have any of you experienced "ghosting" or images "burned" into the picture? I was considering a plasma until I read one person's negative experience with a fairly new plasma TV.

Those of you who have owned a plasma for a while, what has your experience been?
