I know I'm not that old, but when I was a kid, the local A&P market gave these thingys away when you shopped.

I can't remember if our family actually redeemed the books for merchandise, and can't remember ever seeing a catalog.

But I do remember gluing the stamps into the little book thingys when I was a kid.

Anyone else?

Yes, Lucky Gem, I remember 'em! I'm 53 years old and we even had a S&H redemption center in downtown Hollywood, FL when I lived there in the late 1960's! Hated licking 'em but my dad would let me get something every now & then with them!

The green stamps I remember were a little different looking.

But basic arrangement was the same.

I remember them well. In fact, about five years ago, my mother presented me with a full book of them that she had unearthed around the house somewhere, and assigned me the task of finding out how to redeem them.

The classic green stamps were issued by the Sperry and Hutchinson marketers, "S & H Green Stamps", but there were a few wannabees, that gave out Gold Stamps, etc.

Yes, I remember them and orange stamps. In CA we also had Blue Chip Stamps...which seemed to be the most popular. We got them when we bought gas and groceries. Infact, one of our local stores featured double BCS's on certain days.

When we'd go downtown to the local redemption center, we would also have lunch at Taco Bell next door (there weren't many Taco Bell's back then, so it was a treat!)...and the kids loved it! I really kind of miss those stamps...they really helped out when we were young and raising a family because we could get things we normally couldn't afford to buy on our budget! Now that we're retired, they would surly come in handy again!!!

I wonder if with the way the economy is going, will the "green stamps" become visible again.

For places that gave them away made it more of an incentive to shop in particular stores.

But then again, maybe people aren't as trustworthy as in the past and (not that I don't trust humanity) counterfeiting these green stamps might become an enterprise.
