They probably stay afloat due to some of their suckering tactics. One time I went in there to get some things to set up my new computer, and the guy told me I needed some stuff I never even used. He totally lied to me.

This christmas I went by there and there were dozens of people around buying last minute things. I guess they bide their time, as well.

Several years ago, I walked into our local RS, and inquired of the clerk about a TracFone - (there was a sign in the window indicating they handled them), and got a song-and-dance like you wouldn't believe.
"Why do you want a TracFone?"
"I don't know if I do, that's why I hoped you would explain how they work."
"You don't want to bother with a TracFone. Look at this model from Verizon."
"I know how Verizon works, but I don't want a monthly bill if I can avoid it, so how about the TracFone?"
"Why do you want a TracFone? It's a piece of crap."
"Let me decide. Tell me how it works."
"We don't carry them. Don't be stupid. Let me show you this one."
"But the sign in the window says you do carry them."
"Yeah? Well we don't."
I asked him for his name, which I could plainly see on his ID tag on his shirt. He came from around the counter and told me to get out of his store. I was happy to oblige.
Neither the store, nor Dave, is in that mini-mall any longer.
I have been using a TracFone for about 14 years, give or take.
