Wal-Mart will soon start offering auto insurance along with vegetables and garden supplies.

The nation's largest retailer said Wednesday it is partnering with AutoInsurance.com to provide customers with "a one stop shop" for their auto insurance needs.

I don't overly trust most walmart products to begin with, I sure as heck wouldn't bother with car insurance from them.

Excellent news. Even if you're not a Wal*Mart supporter, their entry to the market will drive prices down industry wide.

Walmart is NOT selling insurance!

All they are doing is setting up a link so you can get a quote from an online broker. Walmart will get a fee for each person that buys from the website that clicked through from the link.

You can do the same using established online brokers. There will be little or no impact on competition as the customer base is normally not the sought after group as compared to services like USAA, AARP's, Costco's programs, or going direct to the insurance company.

Yup! The headline is very deceptive and will probably work well for Walmart with people that are just going to assume Walmart = lower price.
