I've used a Norelco 800 series that I got about 15 yrs ago and the motor was powerful enough with good rpms, speed etc. Back then it cost a good $60 so it wasn't cheap but more recently I've tried a couple cheaper norelcos and remington's but the motors just turned too slow for my liking so either returned them or kept them and regretted it. I'm partial to the 3 head design that norelco uses but found their 7000 series worthless because of weak motors and subsequent slow speeds. Does anyone know if the 8000 series speed xl turn plenty fast enough? I would just as soon use it as a plugged in shaver too since a/c always seems to make it that much faster compared to using it as a cordless. Don't want go higher in price than what a sale-priced 8240 xl might sell for which should be around $70. Can anyone also recomend a 3 head shaver other than norelco at a decent lower price that has a powerful enough motor that's turning higher rpm's? Shave closeness isn't my biggest priority since I don't even like the feeling of a real close manual shave but speed is important, thanks in advance.

Hope it helps.

Don't think it would be ruinning fast enough for me at 8,500 rpm especially since I see the Norelco 8240 runs 13,000 rpm. Probably will try and wait out a sale on the norelco.

I don't understand your need for speed.

I tried a few cheaper models from norelco + remington and the weaker motors/slower speeds of the lower models took too long to shave and not worth it to me to use them at all. My old higher priced norelco had a storng motor and blades turned fast and even after the blades got completely dull still made it worth using and to me was better than the brand new cheap slower turning shavers with new blades.

Anyhow just ordered a Norelco 8240 speed xl and should be happy with that
