Sam's is closer to my house than any Costco so I chose it
(I really need more work since I have answered all your polls haha )
I just think it would be neat to find a pattern in how we all shop and if the financial performance of the companies that tend to dominate the polls reflect these apparent preferences. (I'm an accountant at heart! LOL!) Personally, I don't have a Costco in my area, nor have I ever been to one, so I'm just basing it as being a competitor to Sam's Club on all of the whining I hear around here of "We Want a Costco!" I do remember growing up and begging my mom to take us to Sam's Club so we could pig out on the free samples from the little old ladies with the microwaves in the frozen foods section! I haven't been to a Sam's Club in about a year; do they still do that for the kids? I was always impressed by the massive sizes they had of everything. If I ever want to fill a swimming pool with mayonnaise I know where to shop! LOL!

I actually bought a powerdrill for my husband from there and it has lasted for a really long time. Great 40.00 investment! I am happy with Sam's.

Costco for me. It seems the employees are more friendly and helpfull. Plus you can't beat a hot dog and 20 oz drink for $1.50. Feed the wife first, then save $$$$ shopping because her tummey is full. Ha, ha.

When I go to Costco on the weekends, I basically have lunch there just from all the different samples. Unfortunately, I end up buying everything I try, which doesn't always taste as good once you get home! :-(

It's known as "impulse buying," and that's exactly why Sam's Club and Costco give out free samples on their products that tend to have higher profit margins for them. They figure that by writing off ten boxes to use to prepare the samples, they'll sell 100 boxes that they otherwise wouldn't sell when dopes like me walk up to the little old ladies, pick up a toothpick, slam down a sample of bacon-wrapped bon-bons, and then say "Wow! I'll take three boxes!" It's not until afterwards that people experience "cognitive dissonance," or having second thoughts about their impulse buying. It's the same reason why car sales specialists allow you to take a test drive of their vehicles. They assume that by taking the risk of letting a ****** like me cruise around in their car for ten minutes that they could come one step closer to playing off of my "feel good" emotions and close a sale. The same goes for real estate agents with open houses. I'm an impulse buyer to the EXTREME, which is why I avoid shopping whenever I can. Hell, I was at the mall last month and had some guy run up to me with a cosmetic product. Being the wholesome small town guy I am, I was stupid enough to allow him to lure me in with his demonstration and forked over $40 for nail care products! At least I'll be the "prettiest" boy they have at the garden center! LOL!
I haven't been to Costco since I lived in Denver, but having tried both it as well as Sam's, I much preferred Costco.
I am not a huge fan of buying bulk (no pun intended) but I used to go crazy over Costco's baked goods as well as meats, specialty cheeses and fresh fruits and vegies.
Sam's seemed better for electronics and that sort of thing.
There is a Costco in Jacksonville and I look forward to going there every now and then.
