Is it me or has Amazon lost their price edge? (stores, Walmart)

I have been doing online price comparisons. In the past, I almost always ordered from Amazon because I couldn't beat their prices and delivery deal locally in the Phoenix area. But, this year, it seems Amazon is higher - even factoring in taxes - than the local WalMarts, Targets, Sears, and such. And they have shifted so much to the Amazon "Marketplace" stores where you pay for shipping too. I have been looking at things like cameras, tools.
nope, haven't really noticed that. Walmart is currently engaging in an intense price war w/ Amazon w/ some items, so it could be they've lowered their prices vs. Amazon raising their prices. I don't touch the 3rd party sellers unless they have an amazing deal (ie, $.01 books w/ cheap shipping)
I had heard that Amazon, Walmart and Target are in serious price wars for the Christmas season...and seems true to me. One toy my daughter really wants was $55 when it first came out. It's now $45 on Amazon, and $40 at the other two. I'm still not buying it though! I'm hoping it will go on clearance for her birthday in January.
What I noticed about Amazon is that you can shop online, end up with a bunch of different products from many different sellers, but you don't see what the shipping will be until you check out.
I was going to buy a camping folding picnic table. The prices ranged from $35-$55. Of course I chose the $35 one until I checked out and found the shipping to be $25. And this was after I noted the shipping for my order with the item, then deleted it from the order, and noted the difference again, then subtracted the difference to see how much shipping that one item was adding. As there was no easy way to compare shipping for all the other sellers in one fell swoop, I just didn't buy it. So that I have found extremely annoying. Too much run around to find out what amount of shipping is attributed to each item that is not sold by amazon.

see, I only buy products that are being sold by Amazon and/or has the "free shipping for over $25" deal (and a LOT of stuff on Amazon qualifies for this). once you start tacking on shipping, I start doing the mental math and try to figure out if Amazon price= shipping is still cheaper than store price+ 10.25% sales tax. sometimes Amazon is cheaper, sometimes Target/Walmart/etc is cheaper (god, I hate the sales tax here!)

This is false the shipping price is right under the item price for the individual sellers. During checkout you proabably stayed with the default higher price shipping instead of the cheapr amount.
