Best Buy, April 2009. Used VisaDebit card as Visa from bank for Toshiba laptop.

Screen just went black and since we are just 8 months into 12 month warranty, I figured I'd send it to Toshiba to see if it could be fixed for free.

Can't find the receipt but have found my bank statement.

Is this a lost cause? Can Best Buy reprint a receipt?

(I usually put all receipts into the box and put them in storage...found the box but no receipt inside- live and learn!)

BB should be able to reprint a receipt, although you'll probably have to jump through some hoops and wait a while.

Shouldn't matter, though. With computers, the warranties are usually based off the date of manufacture. If you're a year past that, then you'll need the receipt to prove date of purchase, but otherwise, you should be fine.

You should be able to check warranty status on their website. If not, you can probably check it over the phone by calling their support number. If they say it's in warranty, you shouldn't need the receipt.

(Note that I've never dealt with Toshiba for warranty service, and I don't know what their policies are. It's possible they'll require the receipt no matter what.)

Most stores can reprint a receipt if it was paid by credit, debit, check. I know that they can look it up almost instantly but may take some time to reprint.
Good luck!

Just fyi in case someone stumbles across this thread and has the same delima-

no receipt was necessary.

Toshiba has a website for warranty.....plug in the serial # and part # and presto! The warranty info popped up. Called the 800 # and they are shipping me a box w/ mailing tag.
