I'll DM you with some other 411 I found doing a internet search.

That law specifically doesn't include cigars and there are plenty of places to buy them online. It also doesn't include the kind of "pipe" tobacco I was talking about in the post above. Furthermore, one of the wonderful/terrible things about living in this country is that there are a lot of regulations, so many in fact that relatively few are actively enforced.

The bill above is actually a perfect example of how our politicians like to pretend to be busy while accomplishing nothing. If a bill passes congress without including the funding for enforcement, it might as well have not been passed at all.

I wouldn't suggest getting friend to buy for you at PX either as they can be charged in military.

"So, I heard a rumor that there is an Indian Reservation that sells cartons cheap. Is this legal? Is it a rumor? I don't want to break the law. ...If you are a smoker (NJ) , where do you get your carton of cigarettes?"

I'm currently living on Long Island NY and have been buying cigarettes from an Indian reservation for years. It is legal. However, they can't ship them to you for legal reasons. (For anyone living in NY, see bottom of this post.)

You can get cigarettes pretty cheaply online. If you plan to go this route, however, buy only one carton from them the first time and try the cigarettes/shipping out first before repurchasing. If everything's ok, wash, rinse, repeat (buy more). Note that a pack of Marlboro's purchased from the UK may be stronger than those purchased in the states. If I remember correctly, even in Canada, my normal brand was stronger there. Also, I heard a rumor many years ago (maybe 10?) about cigarettes from online overseas distributors being stale by the time they reached the consumer. However, it's probably just a rumor and, like I said, it was a long time ago. I never experienced it myself.

Brand dependent smokers: It's a good idea to try non-brand name cigarettes and Indian reservation brands. Some of them are really good! And it DEFINITELY saves you money.

If anyone lives here, there's the Shinnecock Indian Reservation out by Mastic.

Take Sunrise Hwy (Rt 27) going east.
Get off at the William Floyd exit going south.
Take a left at the first light (off William Floyd). Think it's 28 or 68? Can't remember.
You'll pass a 7Eleven on the right. One mile past that, there's a little ice cream store and I think a bait & tackle. This is Herkimer. Take a right on Herkimer.
Go past the railroad tracks maybe 2 miles and take a left onto Eleanor.
At approximately the 2nd stop sign, take a right into the reservation. If I can't miss it, neither can you.

The brand I get, Warriors, is $20/carton. To date, the cigarettes are still tax free

Native American grounds for cheap cigs... news to me! I won money at their casinos before I turned 21 since there, it's only an 18yo requirement.

Here's the price, by state:

Notice the difference in price at the Kentucky-Illinois state line.

Here's another source. Difficult to nail dowsn an average price in each sgtate.

In Armenia, if you don't mind the overseas flight, I saw Marlboros for 45c, local brands 30c per pack.

Definitely the cheapest I've ever seen is on Indian Reservations. My mom lives in Texas outside of Houston and drives almost 40 minutes to the nearest reservation and loads up on like 10 cartons of Seneca's for $300 or so. My husband and I drive 30 minutes into the mountains here near Fresno where there's a small casino and they sell cheap cigs as well. They have specials often on seeing if people like new brands they acquire or to get rid of old brands, and my husband no joke scored 5 cartons for $100. He said they were kinda gross... but if you're a smoker... you're not usually picky; you just want to save money most of the time. The avg price of a carton though is about $30-35 at these places though.

Not all casino's on Indian Reservations will sell them at the same prices, however. We found out that the place we go to, sells their cigs to another Reservation that's about 30 minutes in another direction, and the prices for them are almost normal cig prices over there.
