Our local market has the usual handicapped spots.....some time ago they added spots for 'shoppers with children'
Now I see a couple of new signs for parking for veterans.
What's next?
That spot is usually empty, by the way, and you'd have to imagine there are a whole lot of vets.
Our grocery store has a reserved spot for expectant mothers. On quite a few occassions I have seen single guys park there and have asked when their due. They do a double-take between me and the sign and hop back into their cars to move them!
Government and businesses have an insane need to destroy the very egalitarian ideals that made the country work. I've seen "employee of the month" spaces, over twenty handicap spaces for a K-mart that has a total of a hundred cars in the lot (including employees) on a good day, and other insanities. We got rid of "Parking for blacks" and "Parking for whites" and replaced it with "you aren't good enough to park here because you don't have a problem." Put parking meters on the spots nearest the stores. Give the handicapped a limited number of token each month. Keep the parking open.
I park in the 'expecting women' spots whenever they're open. I think they're fair game.
They are; it's not enforceable by law and if a pregnant woman truly needs to park so close to the door they can actually get a temporary handicapped placard (in this state anyway) that allows them to use the handicapped spots. I worked with a woman who was put on bed rest for pre-eclampsia but still had to go out every once in a while and she had one.

I've never seen those but they do have the "Shoppers with children" spots which I think are fair game too. Besides most kids around here could use a little more exercise.
I don't care if someone is expecting. Not my problem. If it's so troublesome to be pregnant, it can be easily avoided.
Although I'm not a big fan of vulgarity, I do enjoy George Carlin's "Baby On Board" piece, particularly the phrase don't tell me your troubles, lady. It reflects my thought about the "expectant mother" parking. Just query "George Carlin Baby On Board" on youtube.
Edit: I remember my mom hauling me all over the place while she was pregnant. I'm sure it wasn't easy for her but I never heard her complain about it either.
Someplaces here have reserved for folks running to the Pharmacy. WTH is that??
