Just wondering about telephone service these days. Things have changed over the years and many people find bargains in different forms of products. What type of telephone service do you use, and does it include free long distance calling? Also do you have a time limit and billed monthly? How about pre-pay service?

What are you using and why?

Rarely use the cell phone, prepaid minutes work fine for us.
Landline has LD included, use that most of the time.

We chose not to install a land line when we bought this house. We have a monthly cell plan with a set amount of shared minutes that includes long distance.

We use the family cell phone plan for all calls. We have a landline (LD is extra) just so the TIVO can talk to its leaders.

I just bought an accessory to hook the TIVO up to the internet, so once I get that connected we can bag the landline.

I have a landline for local calls during the day. I use my cell phone on the weekends (during the unlimited time) to make the 3 long distance calls to relatives. I keep my landline because as soon as my contract is up with the cell phones, I'm cancelling them and switching to a prepaid, since the only reason I have one is for my husband. He drives 130 miles a day round trip to and from work. He averages about 4 minutes a month cell phone usage.

I like having the hardwired landlines for most all of the calls because I'm normally home most of the time. The service gives me long distance calling so that isn't a problem and it works out well.

The cell phone service is prepay and both my wife and I have our own pre-pay plans that allow long distance calling. The best part of this is that we don't use them all that much during the month and our unused time rolls over to the next month and continues to do so. I pay $50 a year for 500 minutes and never use them all in a year so they roll over as well to the next year when I pay again the $50 a year to renew my T-mobile gold rewards prepay service.

The cell phones are used only when we're out of the house.

My home phone was converted to a internet based service a couple of years which includes unlimited calling within the USA and several other countries in which I have relatives and/or friends. I also have a regular cellphone with a monthly billing plan.
