For me, it's an enjoyable experience every time I visit one. I like going there to browse around and to see if they have anything I like. I almost always walk out with something I like. Another thing is the overall atmosphere feels "comfy" and "at home feel". That's what makes me keep on going back.
I love shopping at them too. I collect music, and I've found many great CDs at them. Cheap too, our Goodwills only charge $2 per CD or DVD. I also love seeing some of the stuff people drop off there. Last week, one of them had an air hockey table and a pool table! Other oddities I've seen include a stethoscope (it was an actual one, not a toy or prop), what appeared to be someone's entire Hannah Montana collection, and a VHS rewinder that's been on the shelves for months.
The only thing I don't like are some of the parents with little kids. They let them run wild around the store, and often use the toy aisles as a playground.
Since I primarily re-design my clothing.....( I enjoy sewing- you know that thing with a needle and it zips up hems and makes attire or curtains?).
I usually get the clothes from goodwill/salvation shop and re- do it. No one would even know other then the fact its more tailored and has fashionable flair to it!
If ya all knew the true cost to make a shirt vs what the box stores and "designers" profit from, you'd learn to sew!
My husband and I both enjoy it. He likes to look at tools and cameras. He found a golf putter that makes him win every game--all the guys call it "the magic putter" and he lets them borrow it. But he doesn't tell them he paid about $5 for it.
This spring I found some pretty Flax linen tops for myself and they were brand new.
I've also found replacements for my Pyrex mixing bowls.
We especially like to poke around in little thrift stores in Maine for interesting stuff. I don't like expensive flashy cheaply made new stuff--the older things are often better made. Right now I'm looking for a small desk lamp. I don't like that cheap stuff that's Made in China but I bet I can find a beautiful, better quality older lamp for just a few $$.
I have gotten some good deals, but the quality of person can be a bit challenging. People who smell like a shower is a foreign word ect. Good will now is a run to be first when the doors open to see if there is anything of value new on the floor now that mid century and vintage is all the rage. I have seen antique dealers who frequent these places looking for stuff to buy and then resell at the their stores.
