Jammie! Oh you da Goombah here, I see.
Thanks for the nice, friendly post. We are quite familiar with "SooFoo," as it was called as a nickname from my University of South Dakota waaaaaaay back in the late 50s. We make it to SooFoo/Garretson/Palisades several times a year.
Wife and I LOVE to camp. However our youngest daughter goes along this time, and she's not into camping--only for one night. So we had dumb luck to get a fantastic price on a motel for two nights. And the last night will be camping in the Palisades.
Otherwise, wife & I would have have spent two nights camping and one nite in a motel--just the opposite.
Same deal WOULD have applied to the Black Hills. Camping is the absolute cheapest way to go. Get the SoDak camping sticker. And it's something like $10 a night!!! Heck, we pitch our tent and wander about. And for $10 a night, we'd spend a WEEK in a tent. Then on the way back, we'd stay in good old SooFoo.
We made a movie called TERROR AT OUTLAW CREEK that we shot at the Palisades. Via "movie magic," Split Rock Creek became Outlaw Creek. And we tied-in the Jesse James escape from the posse by jumping across the Bottomless creek gap on horseback. Storyline goes that a couple are pursued by wilderness ghosts. A sequel is planned. Right now, we are finishing up another movie and we have room for a "dream sequence" where the talk about the old wagon wheel tracks in SooFoo. We've already covered other aspects of SooFoo in TAOC.
