We are heading out to SF on Thursday, hopefully running ahead of the storm! What are some unique, family friendly places to visit and eat while we are there? I have only ever driven through SF once, so I am not familiar with it at all. We are staying at the Sheraton and will be spending some time at Sanford during the day on Friday. Other than that, we are open.
I'm a fan of Carnaval Brazilian Grill. They have a regular menu, but I've always had the Gaucho meal. The coconut fried bananas are delicious. It may be a little pricey, but it's actually a good bargain compared to similar restaurants like Fogo de Chao.
I also remember liking the ice cream at the Falls Overlook Cafe, in Falls Park, the Phillips Ave. Diner and Chedd's (though it's a franchise, it was still good).
The obvious point of interest is Falls Park. It's a worthwhile stop, IMO.

Yup, good times at Carnaval. Plus one on falls park. Also, the courthouse museum and butterfly house are good places to spend time.
question... the only known chinese BUFFET place I know of in Sioux Falls was gone the last time I checked (the one across the street from the huhot on 41st street) ... are there any others? I'm not talking sit down places here but buffets. It would be nice to have one as an option when I happen to be in Sioux Falls. Maybe they are just remodeling it? It was in dire need... but it was gutted down to the concrete so I doubt it.... but man that place has a nice selection.
If anyone cares the best chinese buffet in eastern SD or western MN was for me is small little place in Pipestone, MN, and I've been to probably every well known buffet in the state from Rapid to Pierre, Yankton...
If you like all you can eat crab legs or seafood/fish you can hit up Royal River Casino (Flandreau, SD) on Fridays or Grand Falls Casino (just over the Iowa border SE of Sioux Falls on highway 42) on Wednesday and Friday. Don't forget to print the coupon for free $5 in casino play. Grand Falls is a new, nice, smallish casino but superior to Royal River. These two are the largest in this region unless you feel like driving to the Twin Cities (Mystic Lake) or Omaha, or the silverado in Deadwood (also small, but nice buffet)
