Holy cow, that is a lot of money to take from a fair. I wonder if they will even be able to have one this year.

That's a bummer!!! And it's my favorite fair.

It does look like it was done throughout two years though so if they had $$ to have one last year, hopefully they'll be able to do it this year, too. I would hope that she has to pay that money back, but that'll probably take a very long time.

It is a shame of what the office manager did and the person obviously made poor choices.

Sorry~the article said it's a "HE". Not sure where I got the impression that it was a "SHE". What amazes me is the fact that it almost appears that he thought he was gonna get by with it.

My local paper said that he resigned so the fair could go in a new direction. He obviously had some clue that they were on to him~maybe even knew the audit was near.

I think you are missing something there Jammie. The guy that resigned was the director or 'head cheese'. The person that stole the money was the office manager, and she was a she. It seems that the 'head cheese' bolted because the people under him are his responsibility, and he watched over her while she stole what has been reported as at least $350k.

OK, today our newspaper finally had an in-depth article on it. The same day that I read the link that you provided, all our paper had was the fact that the fair manager quit.

WELL, today there's a good story about it on there. It appears that the office manager seems to have made a lot of cash deposits since 2004 and they think that as much as 383,000 could've been embezzled.

She was also very generous so I wouldn't be surprised if the fair manager will be in trouble, too. The article said that she gave him gifts~a motorcycle, timeshares,~VERY expensive gifts to give your boss.

Can you imagine what the fair could be doing with all that $$???

You're the boss - your office manager gives you expensive gifts (motorcycles aren't cheap) - and you have no clue??
Somehow he had to know something.

Yeah, the more I read, it sounds like it would be hard to not know that something stunk in Egypt. Hard to know from the papers though, on what her situation was (personal wealth from other than career or a wealthy husband).

I used to do audits and can't believe that she got by with this. I know they can't catch everything, but still...

My thoughts exactly. Great minds think alike.

A wealthy husband might be something she'll use for her defense, but she did make a lot of cash deposits so she'll still have to explain that.

I'd hate to see this ruin the Sx. Empire Fair cause I like to go and I also like some of their entertainment.
