For those of you who don't follow Italy (mmm.. 99.9%??lol), it might have looked like Italy sucked today vs. Paraguay. Well, in a way they did, but in another way they did not.
Now, this might come to some of you as a surprise but Italy actually overachieved today in its 1-1 vs. Paraguay.

Crazy and already fired coach Lippi (Prandelli will replace him as soon as he's out of the WC), left all the players with some fantasy and technique (especially midfielders) at home. After Pirlo injury (not that Pirlo is Baggio or anything like it), the Italian midifield is made of 4 players, 3 of them playing outside of their natural position.

Lippi is asking Montolivo (a younger, more technical, Gattuso type) to be Pirlo.
Lippi is asking Marchisio (a defending midfielder from Juventus who can also come forward for a shot from outside the box) to be Totti or Del Piero, the last touch man for the strikers.
Lippi is also asking Gilardino to score goals, something he struggled to do in the Italian league with Fiorentina (but the Italian league top goalscorer, Di Natale, is on the bench).

The Italian team ran a lot and I like that the players kind of re-arrange themselves on the pitch in spite of Lippi's Bullsh!!t. I don't knowe if you noticed captain De Rossi in the second half gesturing to yelling coach Lippi to stay calm and they hitting his chest as in" don't worry, I got it".

Unfortunately (if you are an Italian fan) this is as good as it gets for this team. As usual they will fight, maybe they will overachieve again, but sure enough, crazy, ego-maniac coach Lippi did all his best to hurt this team by sticking with his buddies instead of selecting the best players.

When Pepe is struggling on the right side and nobody at midfield has any idea of what to do, you can only think of Cassano, Balotelli, Miccoli and others who are watching the World Cup at home just because they did not kiss Lippi's butt enough.

Italiano fan here A crazy one at that.

I was found swearing at a tv a LOT about 2 hours ago LMAO. I'm glad Rossi pulled the equalizer.

Italy is one of those teams. This is good for them. They always go good when they begin their campaign shaky and lacklustre, like 2006. Many a time when they are off to a brisk start they crash out somewhere.

This is good

I see what you are saying, but don't take away from Paraguay, they played really really good. They had a passion I have yet seen on any of the previous matches.

Italy always start slow. Their objective is to qualify from the group stages. Wait for the knockout stages and then we will see.
