stecuk - Nope, they are nation states that make up the country. When is the last time you saw a Scottish embassy somewhere??

RjRobb2 - Yes, I guess I'm not the majority when it comes to that!

ian6479 We could debate this for ages and neither agree with each other, but i think it comes down to whether you feel British, English, Welsh or Scottish. I personally feel English rather than British, and would not feel the same about a UK team as I do about the English Team, and I would think that most Scots, Welsh and Irish would feel the same.

I didn't realize that there has ever been a "British" football team. I have heard that there has been talks of not fielding a home football team during the UK Olympics.

Gordon Brown wanted to have a UK football team in the London Olympics. Naturally the English FA were all for it. However, the FAs of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have, quite rightly, refused to have anything to do with it.

Because Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have their own national teams - they just never make it to the World Cup level. Check England's roster and you'll see that all their players are from England and not any other places in the UK

Do you mean the Republic of Ireland, a country totally separate from the UK and GB?

If you think that's crazy,
you should see the list of countries that FIFA (soccer federation) doesn't recognize.

Scotland has played in 8 World Cups. In 1974 they were undefeated in the World Cup.

UK does not necessarily equal Britain or British...correct?
