No, it is unique to South Africa. I doubt FIFA allows them at any of their major tournaments again. It was allowed because it was something SA was proud of.

you normally hear singing, chanting, and cheering during the games.

Yes it drove me a little insane. Sounded like a swarm of bees at times.

I hope they get banned from sporting events in general and especially soccer. Some countries have spent 100 years building a culture around their sport with songs and chants and in a matter of minutes it's obliterated by a piece of plastic.

But seriously, since when do $4 plastic horns from China become "african horns"?

I've seen them at sporting events in the US for at least the last 20 years and, in this town, they're a New Years staple. The only difference in South Africa is that it seemed like they handed them out to every fan upon entrance.

Yeah, they really arent tradition there. FIFA just used that as an excuse for whatever reason.

I have one of those horns that I got back in the 80s.

The SEC and Big Ten have declared that these damned things will be banned from conference football games this upcoming season. A little drastic I suppose but I'm glad someone is nipping it in the bud.

Literally the only thing related to English football to be proud of at that World Cup: the England games had chanting and singing, not endless horn-blowing.

Non-westerners are LESS annoyed by it in general! In fact I've got two in my house!

The times I actually did watch the World Cup, it WAS TOTALLY ANNOYING.

Then some idiot had to bring them in to America. At a Rangers/Marlins baseball game this past season, there was a promotion going on with like the first 10 or 15 thousand fans through the gates gets them.

If I was in charge, I would of fired him.

Rangers won that game, though.
