Each sport has their own way of fan excitement. I dont think I have attended a sporting event where the crowd was completely boring unless the game was just terrible.

Crowd noise in American football is actually quiet strategic. Crowds purposely get quieter when their home team has the ball to allow them to easily communicate plays to one another while getting very loud when the other team has the ball on to drown out their ability to audabilize plays and dissrupt their quarterbacks cadence. This can be extremly effective in loud stadiums.

Sensitive ears and kiddies might want to watch out. A little profanity at the end of this first one.

Hate to hand it to our heated pro rival the Saints but their matches are like Mardi Gras.

Atmosphere is best when its spontanius(sp). I hate it when the guy comes over the tannoy at our home ground at a volume that makes my ears bleed bellowing "MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!!!!". And when they hand out those stupid paper clapper things . Just stop telling us to sit down and let us stand and get behind the team ffs. It's a football match not golf or bloody lawn bowls!

As for MLS atmosphere, I've only seen a few youtube vids so i cant really comment. But what does it matter anyway, your atmosphere is your atmosphere. Im sure there all just as passionate about there teams as everyone else. They all go to the games and back the team and thats all that matters really

Anyway... the point is American sporting events go way overboard bringing in all these distractions trying to build stadium atmosphere which, in my opinion, is not only superficial, but disrespectful to the sport itself. Take the super Bowl for example.. It has unfortunately morphed into this giant, goofy, pop culture cesspool.
Very late response, but I mean if the game/match is fun, who cares if the atmosphere is boring?

It's an old thread but this post is spot on.

When americans watch a game they are watching the game- not singing and rioting. Notice how soccer fans rarely talk about the actual game and activity on the pitch but the atmosphere and fans???

But that's the way it is in the USA a sport made for everybody.

In all fairness not everybody understands baseball, football or basketball so you guys got soccer.

Please don't tell me how popular soccer is world wide. Easy stuff is always more popular.
Soccer haters crack me up. This is wrong IMO, but you get points for creativity and use of smilies.

This might be true. But I think in Europe there is still a very rigid class structure in many countries. Spain and England for example. I think people feel constrained in their daily lives, and they probably are...more so than Americans. Even with all of our sh_t, we are still the land of the free and the home of the brave. No need to pray all night for the team to win like your life depends on it...People here do go to games and watch for fun and entertainment. What's wrong with that?

Here's a tip for the OP: College football or basketball.
LOLLL this is not meant to be funny...so why did I laugh SO LONG and HARD at this. You TELL THEM. LOL yep that's probably it. Hooliganism could get out of hand fast. And yes USA police are not a joke. They WILL shoot you. I can just see it. Some ass decides to throw a table or set off a bunch of flares in a crowded stadium. ha ha ha.
