I've worked in Qatar, the temperature is in the 100's in June, it is the most unlikely venue for football.

I know this thread is old, but instead of starting a new one I am appending this to this one.

I was reading an article and it stated, "It was not immediately clear whether his blacklisting could affect Russia's hosting of the soccer World Cup in 2018."

These two choices, Russia and Qatar, have so much controversy around them, I wonder if FIFA is even considering a revote on locations.

I was hoping Australia would have gotten the nod for 2022.

I HATE world cup in QATAR! Its so unbelievable ridiculous and corrupted!!!!! :O
Those temperatures!!! Zero futbol tradition!!! All the money they gave to Blatter for them being chosen is tainted money!!! Its ALL wrong with this!

It should have gone to Argentina: it haves the tradition, the climate and infracstrucsture. Could be Argentina/Uruguay, too. People breathe soccer here.

If not, any european country would have been ok.

but QATAR????? unbelievable

One of the good things about the cup being played in Qatar is the fact that the country itself is so small. It won't require a lot of travel by fans from venue to venue to follow around their team.

I would have also loved that .

I don't really have a problem with Russia, as at least it has a serious football tradition. But Qatar: that's just plain good old-fashioned Fifa corruption.

I think the World Cup should have gone to the Netherlands, they have never hosted before, if not the Netherlands then surely England. England is so multicultural every game would have had 'home support', (see some of the the attendances of internationals not including England that have been held in the UK, Jamaica had a bigger crowd at Loftus Road in London than they get in Jamaica!) because of the Taylor report after Hillsborough England has some of the very best stadiums in the world, there are NO fences at stadiums in England, the English league is one of the very best supported, the English are football crazy, England is a small island and there would not be a lot of travelling involved for fans to move from stadium to stadium, while their are other countries also have a fine tradition for football eg Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain all of them have held a World Cup more recently, incidently the USA had the world cup in 94, it was a splendid tournament but really they need to wait a while longer before they take another turn.
