I've seen pros from one sport that were "ok" at a sport and even played Div 1.....play against actual pros before. It isn't pretty.

And then there is Michael "Ruth" Jordan

Have you heard of Antonio Gates? He is a Pro Bowl and future Hall of Fame Tight End who had never played football before playing for the Chargers.

There are dozens of players that have played in the NFL who had very little to no experience in football and went on to good careers in the NFL after they failed in their primary sport.

I am sure it is possible but the more I read about Ocho the more I figure the dude is just a freaking media *****. With trials and whether he makes it or not, even if he does and sucks balls big time he will make bank from it.

Either way it is just more ammunition for us fans to give Sporting KC hell about

Not true. Gates played football through high school but only played basketball at Kent State. Another example is Marcus Pollard, who was a decent tight end for the Colts after playing basketball at Bradley, which didn't have a football program. Still, Pollard played football at the high school level.

It's still high school and that is where Ochocinco played. Gates and Pollard still never played at a high level along with several other NFL players.

I am on several MLS boards and no one is giving hell to KC fans about this. In fact, a lot of fans are excited about this and giving the organization nothing but praise for giving him the trial. This has been met with nothing but positive.

If you watch the videos that have been put together, you will see that Ochocinco is genuine and he really just wants to play. He even said he would play for free.

Yes, but your statement was that Gates had never played football before joining the Chargers, as if he had no foundation in the game at all and picked it up in no time. That's just not true, so your original statement is just flat misleading. I'm not sure about Gates, but I know Pollard had to spend time on the practice squad before cracking the active roster. No doubt CJ is not up to snuff as he hasn't played since high school (and I believe it was actually the 10th grade, no?), but perhaps he could if given the time to develop. Then again, age is not CJ's friend right now, whereas Gates and Pollard were much younger.

It appears that Ochocinco has made the reserve squad: Chad Ochocinco of Cincinnati Bengals gets reserve spot on Sporting KC - ESPN
