It still doesnt matter. No one says football club and except for Dallas, no one uses the FC. It is an moot point and has not impact on anything.

Right but it is just there, it isnt used. I have never heard anyone call any of the teams FC except for Dallas. It's kind of like a silent letter within a word.

Dont get me wrong, I would prefer them to use SC but when it comes down to it, it doesnt matter.

But really it's just some sort of wierd euro-envy or copy cattishness.

MLS is like "MUST GET HARDCORE SOCCER FANS-----SOME HARD CORE SOCCER FANS DON'T LIKE WORD "SOCCER" SO MUST USE FOOTBALL".

That's basically it.
Pretty much.

My view on it is just like what I said in the "It's Called Soccer...." thread:
It's just a name.

Plain and simple. Although personally I think it's stupid (I HATE the name "FC Dallas) the MLS is at least playing to the rest of the world's name for the sport. I see it as paying homage to the other major clubs around the world like Real Madrid or Manchester United. But I don't think we should do that here. MLS franchises aren't nearly as old as the Euro or Mexican or South American club, so why not be a little more original and stick with the [City/State - Mascot/Nickname] format we have here in America and Canada?

In fact, here's how I think the club names would (or should) look like had they stuck with that format for ALL clubs in the MLS ....

- Club Deportivo Chivas USA ===> L.A. Chivas
- F.C. Dallas ===> Dallas Tycoons... or Burn (gag)
- Real Salt Lake ===> Utah Royalty
- Red Bull New York ===> New York Red Bulls (who didn't see this comin'?)
- Sporting Kansas City (gag) ===> Kansas City Hunters
- Toronto FC ===> Toronto Mounties

Of course, Seattle and Vancouver would just drop the 'FC' from their names.

Are you a soccer fan? If you are, you didn't write this post...

'Soccer' is a shortened version of 'Association Football', therefore, 'Football' is as legitimate a name for the sport as anything else in America.

The sad thing is how some Americans get all defensive and accuse American soccer fans of 'wanting to be European'. Grow up and develop some serious concerns and stop worrying about what people you don't like call a sport you don't like.

Sheesh.
