Why do some MLS teams have FC (football club) in their names when North America calls it soccer? (group, clubs)

In America you call it soccer so why do they have FC in their names?

These clubs are American and they call it soccer. So shouldn't these teams theoretically be called SC (soccer Club) or something?

Not all Americans call it soccer. I am pretty sure my group of friends call it Football and the dudes who formed the Franchise dont call it soccer either because they called them Football Club.

But really it's just some sort of wierd euro-envy or copy cattishness.

MLS is like "MUST GET HARDCORE SOCCER FANS-----SOME HARD CORE SOCCER FANS DON'T LIKE WORD "SOCCER" SO MUST USE FOOTBALL".
