Soccer: Football's fight for the hearts and minds of fans in the U.S. -- Roger Bennett - ESPN

Interesting proposals, although I think the game will continue to grow at least somewhat organically as long as it's on tv.

Serioulsy though, it really doesn't matter what US says, unless they solve player development issues and get on par with Euro and Latin American teams, it'll be hard converting the unwashed masses or even those who look abroad for teams.

I agree with the fact that it will grow by itself...a lot of US soccer nay-sayers argue that soccer has been around for ages and if it was going to be big in the US it would have been by now, but I disagree with that.

I think it will also continue to grow as long as good US grown talent choose soccer over more "American" sports such as football and baseball. I see it as being similar to hockey in many respects as that started out as a canadian thing, but it is surely growning in the US, even with Texas having huge hockey prospects. When a new sport to a country is introduced it takes a while to get it going, and I think MLS has done a heck of a job moving the sport to the top ranks of US sports.

Wonder if Klinsmann is going to have any impact on the sport in the US.
