Arsenal would have been runners-up in the Premier League last season and Blackpool wouldn’t have been relegated if match officials hadn’t made mistakes. (See table at bottom).
These are the headline findings from extensive new research that re-examined 713 ‘significant’ incidents – penalties, goal line incidents, offside goals – across the Premier League’s 380 games in 2010-11.
Check out the revised table. Is it any surprise that Man U, City, and Chelsea all benefited points wise from official's "mistakes"..? While the claim, made by Gooners everywhere, that some of the refs have it in for Arsene Wenger doesn't look so far fetched..

It makes for a good conspiracy theory and a fun read but I don't buy it. Why even mention Blackpool if the focus is Arsenal? This study also does not factor in mistakes made against other clubs.

Perhaps in Blackpool's case because they played an entertaining brand of football and according to the research shouldn't have been relegated. With Arsenal, they were the only big club in which these errors had a negative impact..ending up costing them 2 places in the table and forcing them to play a CL qualifier..

And considering some "713 significant incidents" were looked at, it's obvious the focus of the study is not exclusive to just a few clubs..

So will that be the official excuse for the 8-2 thrashing they received from United this morning??

Arsenal have a lot of problems this year...but how is your question relevant to the topic, which in case you haven't noticed, is about the match officials errors of last season?

It is very relevant. where is the proof? The website doesn't show any proof for it's statements. So without proof it is just an Arsenal fan claiming the officials cheated them.

With this theory, all you Arsenal fans can jump on the "the refs are against us" wagon and complain every time that you lose that the officials cheated you.

Good to see absolutely nothing went against Liverpool, knor did they get anything they shouldn't have. That is definitely a scientific study not based on any bias at all. We can all sleep at night now.

A single player in any match makes more mistakes in the game than an official does the entire game.

So in this study, if a penalty is not given it counts that as a goal taken away?
