Oh, its North Carolina. I DO see many soccer fields around here. The kids here seem to play alot. Just not much talk about it at all on a pro level. Then again if its not College basketball or Nascar I don't here much talk about any sport.

My past and future home Connecticut had more interest but it was still minimal. At least you could find it in the local papers albeit page seven. I do get a kick out of the fact that almost every person I know from Europe has a huge soccer interest ..and god forbid you say anything about the game. Its an unreal passion. But us Americans? MLS? Meat laden sandwich? Mels Lemonade Stand?

I'm from/live in Chicago and have a rather large social circle of 20 somethings....I know several people into Euro teams, but I can't think of anyone that pays attention to the fire. I dont recall ever even seeing it on at a sports bar, though Im sure it has been at some point, never seen anyone pay attention to it though.

Certainly doesn't get talked about on local AM radio or much air time on local sports shows. It is wayyyyy behind hockey here - and not even close to the Bulls, Bears, Sox or Cubs.

No, I was just curious.

You do not live in an MLS market so interest is not going to be as high.

Would you agree that the NBA is very popular?

However, if you come to KC you would think the NBA isnt very popular at all. Hardly anyone is interested in it and it is rarely on at sports bars. It is all a matter of where you live.

That's exactly my point. Location can be everything when it comes to interest in something. If you lived in an MLS market, you would have a whole different perception.

Although, the Carolina Railhawks seem to have a loyal following.

Chicago probably has the highest concentration of soccer pubs in the entire country. So, if people want to go watch a soccer match at a bar, they will go to one of the pubs rather than your every day sports bar.

I actually drove to Chicago in March for an MLS match between KC and Chicago. After the game we drove to a bar in Bridgeview and watched soccer matches and guess what, the entire bar was full of soccer fans and it was so full that people were standing.

The Chicago Fire has been struggling because their ownership just cannot seem to get their **** together. They are one of two or three teams where it seems like interest is decreasing rather than increasing. But, a big part of that is that they just are not very good and have pissed off a lot of their fans with their decision making.

NBA is not talked about much here believe it or not..its all college and high school basketball. KC has no interest in baseball because the team sucks ...ANY small market city where the team is bad is gonna have a very small fan base..its the way it goes in baseball. In the 70's the Royals were HUGE when they were good. If they show signs of life all the fans will come back.

Who praytell are the Carolina Railhawks...never heard of em and that tells it all no matter what they are. I mean I LIVE here..read the papers and local sports every day and I have no idea who they are.

Edit: ooo you said NBA didnt you..my bad. Glad I read the posts first before commenting. Yea, the KC , St.Louis area with no pro NBA team would not have much interest, makes sense.

yeah - it's just amazing that the local news paper not only had a soccer section on it's main sports page, but when you clicked on that section they brought you to an entire separate section that is dedicated to the Railhawks

they even had a staff writer drum up an article - so it's not being completely ignored there, even if it's on the low end of the spectrum or if you have not interest in it

RailHawks not satisfied after giving up lead - Soccer - NewsObserver.com

probably similar to the coverage the team in MN received when I was living there - not a ton, but to say it's non-existant would be absolutely false

never said they were ... just pointing out they have coverage in the local papers ... not sure if they are the ones you read or not, but they are definitely covered in their home market
