really?! -you signed up to post this..........

I think you'll find that most americans like to eat babies, which is most assuredly related

Also, why would americans be the odd one out.

The 10 most populous nations in the world are:
  • China
  • India
  • United States
  • Indonesia
  • Brazil
  • Pakistan
  • Bangladesh
  • Nigeria
  • Russia
  • Japan
Even if you remove Brazil & Nigeria that is 8 of the top 10 nations and 53% of the population where soccer isn't all that successful. So it sounds like the US isn't as isolated as you would originally imply

That's if your original statement was even true

However, given that soccer & basketball run neck and neck as the most participated in youth sports and the leagues are growing, the federation is improving and more international leagues are being picked up and broadcast - soccer definitely has a place at the american sports table

sure it's not on par with others - it may never be ..... but it's definitely here

NOPE!

Why is the world concerned if soccer or futbol is not as popular here in America as the rest of the world?

I'll give you an American answer (as a Soccer fanatic):

It's a multitude of factors
1) All of our sports history is in "american" sports such as Football, Baseball, and Basketball..so all of the drama/fanbase/history is in those sports.
2) Most Americans havent seen a lot of good soccer (because we haven't invested in soccer due to the money going to other sports). At most they've maybe seen a few U.S. national games from the world cup or whatever (and the world cup tends to be low scoring and of average quality due to teams playing super safe).
3) We have been ingrained to think of soccer as a kid's sport aka soccer moms.

Because the sport has not been Americanized yet.

It was "Americanized" at one stage with the stupid rule changes MLS had at one time. I dont think that that is the issue. Its waaaay to easy to say its not Americanized. Damn yanks need a break every three minutes.

IMHO it was not on TV much because they couldnt show lots of ads so there was not much $$$ to be made by the TV stations so it was kept off air. I think now with Fox Soccer, ESPN, VS (NBC Sports) and some local channels taht show it does show that they have seen the potential audience figures rise due to the popularity of Football rising in the US. There is more and more games on TV now compared to when I got here 10 years ago.

Also, there are many custom Football stadiums across the States now. Nobody in their right mind would invest in the MLS or USL or wahtever if they thought it just wasnt popular and has no potential. Football this time is rising in popularity and MLS is here to stay. I dont think this effort will fail like previous efforts.

Most of us don't care. America often influences the world, not the other way around. (spoken like a true 'merican)
