and ownership (wisely) won't commit to pro/reg in America for any time in the concievable future.
There have been studies done that the owners as a group make more money with pro-rel than they do without. The reason is that clubs that are promoted and then relegated make significantly more money than they ever would have if they were in a closed second division (or lower) and never moved up. Unfortunately all everybody focuses on is the Premier League and the short-sighted vision of focusing on a team getting relegated and losing money for a year (even though they will likely get back up quickly if they are supposed to be a powerhouse). Also, it is much more exciting (and money driving) to have drama at the bottom of the table in regards to standings, not just to see who can lose more and get better draft picks.

Yes the EPL is top-heavy, but the difference between the top two and the rest of Scotland versus the top four and the rest of England is not even close. Just look at how far Celtic and Rangers are ahead of third every year with few exceptions and look at how far ahead the top four are over the rest of the Premier League and there is a significant difference there. In other words, Scotland has it much worse than England.

I agree with you. But, in reality, this is a problem in just about every league in Europe. For example, in Spain, Barcelona and Real Madrid are miles ahead of the rest. In Italy, only a few teams compete. In Germany the same; Netherlands the same; Portugal the same. The EPL has done a wonderful job in marketing itself on the world stage and that has brought in the money. But, ultimately, lack of competition will erode that market because the product will become boring and predictable. Getting rid of promotion and relegation would simply accelerate that erosion. That is why, IMHO, it is just a question of time before we see a European league.
I like things the way it is. I wish MLS would have their system in place. I would love to see our USL teams promoted and MLS teams demoted. That will be something to see.
If its in the paper it must be true for sure. Theres no chance people might be speaking up to see how much balls UEFA has to try get more money in 2014.
