Jesus, this must be one of the deadliest football violence incidents ever. Crazy stuff, I previously said in the ''biggest football rivalries'' thread that Egyptian football fans were nuts, never thought they were that nuts! Al-Masry isn't even Al-Ahly's biggest rivals to, their biggest rivals are fellow Cairo side Zamalek. Anyone know if it was religious (muslim christian) or just because they were football rivals?

It sounds like the supporters of the winning side (sorry, I can't keep the names squared away) came looking for a fight and were teetering towards violence the entire time. Then they attacked the losing side and their supporters. The police, allegedly, have a grudge against the fans that were attacked because they have a history of protest against police and Mubarek, thus refusing to stop the violence and it all went to hell.
Apparently the team whos fans all died were singing at a previous match about the army being corrupt.
Roll on this game and the police and army shut doors behind their stand and padlock them and these doors are never shut, its illegal to padlock doors shut with fans in the stadium (ive worked football stadium security). They let the fans on the pitch everytime they scored and let them attack the sets of fans and gave them no way out.
Though this fixture always has a hostile atmosphere it is definately not only about football.
If the corruption runs this deep in Egypt I think they need to play behind locked doors, banned from europe and the national team be banned for a while. No fans are safe if the army and police are killing people like this.

How can they be "banned from europe" when they're not even in Europe?
And the rest of the world looks down at the United States because we aren't thorough-going soccer nuts. Go figure.
These types of riots are more politically charged than anything. They use soccer as an excuse but at the end of the day, they are politically charged events.

Meant Afrika bro, hard to concentrate on the phone and type at the same time.
