England have been outclassed tonight and cant keep hold of the ball. Gerrard is tired but he cant come off because they will need their main penalty taker if it comes down to penalties. Henderson coming on to play beside Gerrard. I hope Henderson can get the winner.

England need to be put out of their misery as a fluke win would be worse, to be embarrassed by Germany in a major tournament once again.

England players look more tired than anything else. I've never seen such a dreadful England team. How they won that group is beyond me.

Better team won. Italy dominated and did everything but score. The right team went through.

Yeah in each game their possession has been below 45%. Today they looked in a completely different (lower) level to the Italians. Better team won, as someone else said.

For those who followed the earlier matches closely, how well did Italy play against Spain? Do they have it to beat Germany and Spain?

Why did UEFA schedule the matches this way? Germany has had an extra 2 days rest more than Italy has had. I think they could have played both quarters on the same day.

After watching them tonight people would say that they will be hammered by Germany but I dont think they will. I can see them doing a Germany 06 on them in the last minute of the game and going through. I put money on it being a Italy v Portugal final. I also put miney on it being a Spain Germany final but I would rather see a Italy v Portugal final and win more money.

England looked jaded with clueless Rooney upfront. Give more chance to youngsters like Walcott, Carrol, Welbeck. Italy were awesome. Look at the penalty which Pirlo took-it needs nerves of steel for taking that penalty. England gave acres of space to Pirlo who dictated the game.

Walcott should have started, Defoe should have been up front instead of Welbeck as he has a proven international goalscoring record. I would also have brought Ox on and taken Young off and basically gone for it, given England's poor record in penalty shootouts.

Dreadful performance. Funny thing is, England players CAN pass & move as they do so for their clubs without effort. I just think it was a combination of tiredness, lack of cohesion in midfield and a new manager that hasn't had time to make his mark on the team yet.
