No matter what your feelings are about womens soccer, two hugely exciting games today. France vs Japan was very exciting. Then just when you think it couldn't get any better, the USA comes on to beat Canada! This game could not have been any better! There was something for everyone and it came down to the bitter end of the second overtime for the United States to take the win! Both teams displayed technical skill and a tremendous will to win.
Anyone else proud of the Americans?
Should be a good rematch of Japan and the USA.

That hand penalty was a joke !! --- a player is allowed to place their hands so as to protect themselves and it is only if they reach for the ball that a penalty can be called. A penalty is for 'hand hits ball', not 'ball hits arm'. Totally unfair.

The goalkeeper taking too long to send the ball out is a penalty that is hardly ever called.

The referee won the game for the U.S. in my opinion.

USA! USA!

Japan's gonna be tough; they won the last major tourney and they just finished off the Brazilians.

Gotta say it is THE best match of womens football I have ever seen, and the crowd were great also because of the quality of the football. Canadas centre forward was SUPERB. Great game, and not big wages, just for the love of the beautiful game. Hats of to the North American women football players.

True, but I hope referees start calling it a whole lot more.

But yeah, that wasn't a penalty.

Still, amazing game nevertheless.

I've never seen it called. A lot of other folks haven't either:

Stewards working the match at Old Trafford and remember, these folks know their soccer said they had never seen a referee give a free kick for a goalkeeper violating the six-second rule as happened to Erin McLeod and set the stage for a tying goal by the U.S.
Crushed Canadian soccer squad still has much to play for - The Globe and Mail

The ref was either inept or the fix was in. Some strange goings on at this Olympics.

It ticks me off that they dont swap shirts at the end ... or at least make out after a goal (j/k)

It was a really good game, looking forward to the game on Thursday!

The game could've been officiated better and if you think a missed call is just as impactful as a bad call then there were many missed calls that went in Canada's favor -- numerous Canadian takedowns of US attackers in the box, Tancredi stomping on Carli Llloyd's head, etc. Tancredi finished with SEVEN fouls and only one yellow card (for the handball). There's no asterisk next to this win in my book.

The US team didn't beat Canada, The Norwegian referee did.

Canada pulled off an excellent match but the refer seems to have decided that US should win.
