People keep trying to sell Neymar as the next Pele, the next soccer God. I'll wait to see what he does when he gets to Europe. I don't think his star is a sure bet.

Gotta agree. I don't see him reaching the heights acheived by Messi or Ronaldo. He'll be more along the lines of Ronaldhino. He may have a few good seasons, if an when he ever makes it to Europe, but he will fizzle out and never reach the highest plateau.

I could much rather see players like Oscar, Lucas, or Ganso becoming better than Neymar in the future. Neymar just seems like he's too much of a partier and won't focus on the game as much as the fame.

Plus, I really think that staying in Brazil is going to hurt his career.

Lucas is the future of Brazil. He is some player. Man Utd and the rest will really regret missing out on him.

Naymar is a good player but he's not spent one day in the EPL or Primera so we shall see..it's all just hope and speculation.

After what I saw in the olympics (against competition that is not close to what he will see in Europe), he won't be the next Messi. He has gifts, no doubt, and will be a very good player for a long time. I'll just leave it at that for now and see how he develops. Would love to have him on my team.

He's young and it's way to early too judge; Ronaldo was sort of a late bloomer. When he was first with united he was similar to nani, frustrating, more flash than product, tried too hard to score and didnt take the better option of passing or crossing, but then he got over that to become...well Ronaldo

I think Neymar is already hitting his ceiling in terms of potential. This is the time he should be moving abroad and playing for a big team, not staying in Brazil for at least another 2 years and languishing. He's already 20 (I know, it's young, but in football terms it's when he should be playing for a big team). When the World Cup is over, he'll be 22 (still not too old). However, for comparison, by the time Messi and Ronaldo were 22, they were:

Messi (end of 08/09 season): 80 goals in all competitions for Barcelona in 161 appearances and he'd already won the Champions League twice!

Ronaldo (end of 06/07 season): 55 goals in all competitions for Man Utd and Sporting and had won the Premier League title.

By languishing in Brazil he is wasting his potential and will not rise to the level of the above 2 players. Even Wayne Rooney had scored 76 goals for Everton and Man Utd by the time he was 22 years old and had won the Premier League.

Neymar is going to be in for a rude awakening if and when he ever arrives in Europe, where he will most likely flame out.
