Lionel Messi has another chance to reach Gerd Muller's record of 85 goals in a calendar year after being included in Barcelona's squad to play Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The La Liga leaders have already won their group and while Tito Vilanova has rested a number of first-choice regulars for Benfica's visit at Camp Nou, Messi will play.

"He rested last week in the King's Cup and we all know he always wants to play," Vilanova said.

Messi is one goal short of the former Germany and Bayern Munich striker Muller's 40-year-old record with his tally of 84 goals for club and country in 2012.

"We need to be as natural as we can about this," Vilanova said. "Messi has the chance to achieve it and if we are all waiting expectantly for him to do it. "He is keen to play and I think he is used to living with all this about him."

Lol it is just a bruise supposedly, he'll be out for 1 match maximum, so that leaves 3 games this year to score 1 goal to equal Muller or 2 or more goals to beat Muller's record, he'll do it!

The guy is fabulous, not a shred of doubt about it: the best player of his generation (not of all-time, though, in my book: that would still be Maradona, with Zidane a close second).

He will be looked back on as the best player ever in another decade I think though, Zidane is my personal favourite though.
