Partially true, granted Mexico is the only strong opponent in CONCACEF, but when the US plays away qualifiers in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, the weather and altitude can be a shock. Heck, if Germany for instance had to play in Honduras, it would be a difficult 3 points.

But why didn't you mention Belarus, Luxembourg, Latvia, Leichstenstein, Andorra, San Marino, Moldova, Cyprus, Estonia, and the rest of the European minnows. Teams get to gain confidence and form against them before going up against the one or two tough teams in their groups.

Now that CONCACAF is down to 6, they are all somewhat tough (Mex, US, Jamaica, CRica, Honduras, Panama). Granted 3.5 will qualify for Brazil, so it will be demoralizing if the US doesn't make it, but mathematically it is a real possibility. Klinnsman is very worried already. And I'd have to say I'm disappointed by the slow pace of improvement. IMHO, the US is just a little better in 2013 then they were in 1994 when I started following the sport. Meanwhile the increase in soccer interest in that span has probably doubled or tripled.

Conmebol is much easier to qualify in this go around as Brazil gets an automatic berth, but i would agree that it is still easier than Concacaf. Uefa is definitely the most difficult.

first of all not all those counties are going to be in one group, not even close.

I'd venture to say that at a minimum 2 , maybe 3 and sometimes even 4 teams are minnows/no chance in every UEFA group. Most UEFA groups are really only 4 or 3 sometimes team groups. Plus even if you finish second you get into a 2nd round playoff against other second place finishers.

If england and poland can't come out of this group there's something really wrong.

like I said, at least 2 if not 3 and sometimes really 4 teams are throw-away teams in UEFA. Tough qualifing, sure, but not as bad as some like to make if out. There are plenty of minnows in UEFA that have no business being there as well.

Only 2 teams go through. We, Scotland, were in with France and Italy last time. Nearly made it to, beat France away.

nice story , now do you care to tell me why these euro groups are not 2-3 team groups?

please tell me how these courntries have any practical chance of qualifing and why is it that you can finish second in the group and still qualify for the WC?

There is a thing called Google where you can check everything, including size and population of countries etc with a quick search...before writing long non-sense posts.
Andorra the size of Delaware?
Liechtenstein (with population of only 36,000) the size of LA? C'mon

And wtf the size of one country have to do with football?
China then have to be the best of all, right?

Uruguay - 3 million people - won the last Copa America for their 15th time. Croatia, Montenegro, Holland etc, small countries with good pedigree.

you're making my point for me

Liechtenstein I was referring to geographical size but hey, even better. So a country with a population of 36K is supposed to strengthen UEFA? how about Faroe Islands? Malta? San Marino? Andorra? Luxembough? Cyprus? Northern Ireland? Wales? Scottland? There are plenty of minnows in europe, plus you can finish second in the group and still make the WC.

all those countries in UEFA have a soccer culture, india doesn't have a soccer culture either but europe does.

you state UEFA qualifing is the hardest, I've proven that there are at least 2-4 minnows in each group. I've given you specific examples of how often in the last 25-50 years some of these mid-;level (not even minnow) countries have qualified.

There are some groups where not qualifing would be rediculous. (Portugal, England, Germany, Suisse for instance)

do you have a fact-based reply to my post?

Scotland minnows? We beat England the last time we played, beat France 2 years ago, wer only beaten 3-2 by Spain last year, qualified for 8 world cups, won the Britsh home championship 41 times, have the 2nd biggest amount of players in the English premier League after English players, have had a club win the European Cup, have had a club in the last 16 of the Champions League twice in 4 years, have had 2 clubs in the final of the Europa League twice since 2004, produced players like Jimmy Johnstone, Kenny Dalglish, Denis Law, Archie Gemmill, John Greig, Graeme Sounes, Alan Hansen, Gordon Strachan, Billy McNeill etc.

I know the glory days are gone but to put Scotland on the same list as Faroe Islands, Malta, San Marino, Andorra, Luxembough, Cyprus is absurd.
