Welp, will be fun to face Germany, Portugal, and Ghana in the opening round

At least Russia is in good position. They're not finishing ahead of Belgium, but I think they will finish ahead of South Korea

Despite being German I will keep my fingers crossed for Portugal and Ghana

I just hope anyone but Portugal wins, mostly because Ronaldo is a tool. Germany I like I rooted for them to finish third in 2006.

World Cup 2014: from Spain to Algeria via England

an individual rating of the 32 teams classified for WC, by two journalists from The Guardian.

They say some interesting things about some of the team, and this is the order in how they rated them:

1 Spain
2 Brazil
3 Argentina
4 Germany
5 Italy
6 Holland
7 Portugal
8 Colombia
9 Uruguay
10 France
11 Belgium
12 Chile
13 England
14 Croatia
15 USA
16 Russia
17 Japan
18 Switzerland
19 Bosnia
20 Nigeria
21 Ghana
22 Ivory Coast
23 Mexico
24 Ecuador
25 Cameroon
26 Greece
27 Australia
28 South Korea
29 Costa Rica
30 Iran
31 Honduras
32 Algeria

(the first 3 teams are virtually tied in points according to this journalist, 62 to spain and brasil, 61 to argentina)
8. Colombia (23 + 26 = 49pts)

José Pekerman, the ghosts of Argentina's 2006 exit to Germany not yet laid to rest, has created a fluid and attacking Colombia side based around a dynamic and creative midfield and the profound attacking abilities of Radamel Falcao. With Jackson Martínez, James Rodríguez and Teó Gutiérrez, creativity shouldn't be an issue; the defence is rather more suspect. JW

uhmm, best defense in CONMEBOL along with Argentina (least goals allowed)
Yes, our Captain and CB is 37 (Yepes) but he's still a rock star imo and still plays Serie A!
I leave it all in Pekerman's hands. The guy is simply brilliant.

Most of these kids have been playing in major matches for NT from U17 WCups and on for over 10 years. 85% of this Colombian team is same team that won the South American qualifier in 2005 (Falcao wasn't our top scorer in that squad), dominated group play but lost in QF against eventual champions (Arg - w/Messi came back to win the match---their coach Pekerman). Unlucky for that WC. But that crop of players were sent to Europe fairly quickly and opened major doors for future moves for guys like James Rodriguez (Monaco) and many more. They were exposed to so much more than their previous peers had ever have.

Back in the 90s where Colombia had become relevant to most based on their play, Colombia had 4-5 players in Europe. They had tons of talent but our players lacked true professionalism. This is a very different generation and we're playing in South American soil.

Top 5 contenders for the WC:

BRAZIL (It's their home folks! And they are Penta Campeones!)
ARG (amazing attacking force and with a healthy Messi and easy route to SF they are an easy pick)
GER (most consistent Euro side year after year, decade after decade)
SPA (folks, they even made it to the Confed finals. They have to still be considered the best)
ITA ( no other team in the world (except Brazil) knows how to play short tourneys like Italy

Top 3 'Dark Horses'
COL (it's South America, it's a great squad full of Euro based pros that have been playing together since they were teenagers coached by one of the best Argentinian coaches any team could have....oh and we have El Tigre Falcao)
BEL (loaded with talent, best team man to man 'on paper' than any other DH. Give Hazard to the next WC and I think he'll take this team to the finals)
CHI (They possess one of the most fluid attacking forces in futbol. Stars like Alexis, Vidal, Fernandez, Nedel and Valdivia make this team flow similar to Argentina's Messi-DiMaria-Aguero-Higuain. No other team in South America (and very few in the world) can attack like the Chileans. It's all or nothing in their book. Again, a South American WC will play to their favor. Their fans rank in the top 5 in most tix bought for the WC.

The Dutch, I would place between these 2 categories. Ever since I can remember I have heard my dad's calling how the "orange machine" will win. They are the Buffalo Bills of futbol

My stepfahter actually predicted that the orange machine would win 2010, and put a ****load of money on them every match. He made a lot of money until their final game.
